Why We Love This Roast

From Our Importer:

The Gotity Natural Lot is produced at the Gotity Washing Station station in Yirgacheffe, Ethiopia and managed by our partners SNAP Specialty Coffee. The approximately 600 farmers that deliver cherry to this washing station, come from the region and have between 2 and 3 Ha of land sitting at an elevation of 2,200 m.a.s.l. on average. This lot consists of the Kurume variety.

Once the cherries arrive at the Gotity Washing Station, they are placed in water for sorting and removing floaters. The cherries are then placed on raised beds made of wood posts that are covered in burlap, and sun-dried for 14-20 days. During this time, the cherries are often moved to ensure an even drying.

Snap Specialty Coffee was established in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia in 2008, by Negusse, an entrepreneur driven by a passion for coffee. Through the collaboration with their own washing stations in the key coffee-producing regions such as Sidama, Yirgacheffe, and Guji Zone, the company excels in sourcing, producing and logistic systems.

Snap is committed to enhancing farmer livelihoods and elevating coffee quality. Through their comprehensive approach, they provide training to over 6,000 farmers, equipping them with the knowledge and skills needed to improve nursery management, coffee production, and processing. Farmers receive free or low-cost inputs, including fertilisers, sprays, and pesticides, to support their profitability in the face of rising costs.

The focus on quality extends to strict cherry sorting throughout the entire process, ensuring only the best cherries move forward. Snap’s dedication to sustainable practices encompasses soil and water conservation, as well as deforestation awareness.

By training farmers in these areas, they contribute to the overall improvement of rural livelihoods and environmental sustainability. SNAP Specialty Coffee plays a pivotal role in the coffee industry, making a positive social impact, promoting sustainability, and consistently delivering exceptional quality from the heart of Ethiopia. We’ve been working with SNAP since 2024, and needless to say, we are thrilled to build this relationship in the homeland of Arabica coffee.
