We're excited to offer this exceptional Nariño Colombian from Diego Cordoba's farm Quebrada Honda. It has notes of black currant, raspberry and cherry while still exhibiting the round chocolate and pleasant herb bitterness we've come to associate with hop flowers and quality Colombian coffee.

Formerly a vereda, La Caldera is now a corregimiento composed of six veredas that are largely dedicated to the agricultural industry. Thanks to the diversity of climates found here, the land produces an assortment of products such as coffee, sugar cane, tomatoes, potatoes, beans and a special root vegetable called arracacha, among others.However, La Caldera’s infrastructure is still somewhat compromised—its dirt roads require a good set of four wheels— and although it is only 30 kilometers away from Pasto, the departmental capitol, it is not an easy feat to get to and from. And yet, Diego Cordoba still manages to transport his coffee beans to the bodega in Pasto, a feat that requires a short but winding journey that takes on the Circunvalar Galeras, the extremely curvy road that loops around the semi-active Galeras Volcano. Situated at 1,900 m.a.s.l., among blue, yellow and pink houses that stand out against the lush variety of greens of the landscape, the imposing Galeras looming in the background, Diego’s finca Quebrada Honda is home to the Castillo, Caturra and Colombia coffee varieties.
Diego is particularly fond of his Castillo trees which have a shorter stature, boast high productivity and offer an excellent quality in cup. It was developed by the researcher Jaime Castillo Zapata, who crossed several generations of Caturra and Timor Hybrid, to finally achieve a bean resistant to fungi and pests that was also well-adapted to the altitude of the Andes.
Quebrada Honda is located in the vereda of Los Arrayanes, and when the cherries have reached peak ripeness, they are hand-selected and de-pulped. Next, they are fermented for 16 to 20 hours and then they are washed and the beans are put out to dry on raised beds for 14 days. Diego is one of many producing partners who we are fortunate to work with from La Caldera, an area of the department of Nariño known throughout Colombia and the world for its exceptional coffee.
Roasting and Shipping Schedule:
Coffee is roasted on Wednesdays. If you order anytime up until 11pm Tuesday, we will roast the next day and ship on Thursday. Orders received after 11pm Tuesday may not get roasted until the following week. If we have extra inventory, we will ship ASAP.
