Zambia! Most of you never will have tasted coffee from this dynamic origin. We freely admit that a large percentage of African coffee that is not from Kenya or Ethiopia tastes less than stellar, so it came as a huge surprise to us after a session of blind cupping that this coffee was from Zambia. The coffee is very clean with a soft sweetness, a pleasing acidity that isn't overwhelming, and a unique flavor profile. It is slightly nutty, but also has some black tea florals, and a background sweet bell pepper note to it. Give Zambian coffee a try!
From our importer:
"Mubuyu Farm was founded in 1971 by a Dutch development worker named Willem Lublinkhof. In 1999 Mubuyu Farms diversified from crops and cattle into coffee production. The farm is situated at the foot of the Munali Pass. Munali coffee is grown at an altitude of 1,130 meters on a 60 hectare plantation. The farm consists of 1,800 total hectares, growing wheat and soy where it is milled on site and sold into the local market. Mubuyu Farm has a school and clinic for farm workers and their families, employing a total of 420 workers.
When harvesting coffee, the cherries are picked by hand from April to September during Zambia’s dry season. The cherries are only picked when they are bright red, glossy and firm. After washing and fermentation, the beans are sun dried for one to two weeks to reach the desired humidity between 10% and 11%."
